Safe or Not Use Contact Lenses While Swimming

Many people have been wondering whether to wear contact lenses while swimming. It is advised for people to take it off before doing water- sport activities. Long exposure to water will encourage bacterial growth, or pathogens to enter our eyes as the lenses can absorb the water.

If you did not take this seriously, wearing them while swimming can increase the risk of eye issues. For example, eye irritation due to the lenses sticking to the eyes. Other than that, high chance of getting dry eyes syndrome due to chlorinated pool or salt water or corneal abrasions, scratch at your cornea which can weaken our first layer of protection. 

In some cases, you might have trouble swimming without wearing contact lenses, so there are few ways to help you. It may not be 100% effective but it surely will reduce the risk of eye infection. One of the ways is wearing goggles to keep the water out from entering the eyes. Then, take it off after swimming immediately. Rinse your eyes with clean water and now you can wear a new pair of contact lenses.
